Advent Day 4 Wine Experience Project Kalecik Karası, 2021 The project's freshman (and so far only) wine was a Kalecik Karası made with grapes sourced from the Kalecik-based winery Tafali's. The grapes fermented in stainless steel tanks before aging on the lees for eight months. Bottled with no oak aging. The wine poured the medium-opaque brickish red one associates with Kalecik Karası. I recently revisited the Gordias Sauvignon Blanc and don't know why it took me so long to do so! While her Kalecik Karası and some of her other reds are pretty accessible, this isn't an easy wine to find. I had to get it direct from the winery. Since that collaboration with the Asmadan winery, Yaban Kolektif has partnered with Vinolus to create two new wines from the rare grape, Sungurlu. Similar to the Patkara origin stories, Sungurlu has previously only been vinified by Urla Şarapçılık as part of its limited Discovery series. Since then, we haven't seen anything from this grape. Located in Central Anatolia in Polatlı, a bit south-west of Ankara, Gordias winery works with a wide range of native and international grapes. Of course Kalecik Karası features heavily in the wines as do Narince, Fesleğen, Hasandede, Öküzgözü, and Boğazkere. On the international side, the winery produces Sauvingon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Merlot.
