I am so excited to post another article about the book! Several years ago, I wrote a piece, Grape Expectations, for Culinary Backstreets. And now I'm featured on their site! The local buzz about the book makes me so happy and I feel very grateful. CB Book Club: Andrea Lemieux's The Essential Guide To Turkish Wines For this week’s CB Book Club installment, we caught up with Andrea Lemieux, author of The Essential Guide to Turkish Wine: An exploration of one of the oldest and most unexpected wine countries (Canoe Tree Press, 2021). In this exhaustive nearly 300-page guide, Lemieux, a WSET Level 2-certified wine expert and blogger behind The

I don't know about you, but I have been thrilled with our weather the last week or two of April! I'm not ready yet for summer so I hope it holds steady. My seeds are all planted (some are even sprouting, huzzah!) and I look forward to chilling on the balcony with my plants, my cats, and some nice wine. What will you be drinking in May? Read on and find out what your horoscope suggests! Aquarius (January 20 - February 18) Along with the flowers I planted on my balcony, your growth and maturity are blossoming.   A few months ago, thanks to Lisa Morrow of Inside Out In Istanbul, Lisa Futterman reached out to me for an interview about the book!. Lisa F, freelance drinks writer and contributor to The Alcohol Professor, fell in love with Turkey during a previous visit and, in her own words, is obsessed with Turkish wine. My new best friend! How Andrea Lemieux Became an Expert & Advocate for Turkish Wine When Andrea Lemieux moved to Istanbul from the US in 2012, she quickly realized she had a lot to learn about Turkish wine. Inspired, she passed the WSET levels 1&2 (in Turkish!), started a blog, The Quirky Cork, and wrote

Last year, one of my most popular posts was an interview with Uçmakdere winemaker Işıl Bulutsuz. A number of people asked for more interviews. One of my goals this year is to do just that. I am getting a bit of a late start since it's already April! It did take me a while to figure out video editing (which as you'll see is still very much a work in progress). Anyway, I'm finally able to post my first interview. Tina Lino While she's not Turkish, I decided to start with Tina Lino, who, unlike many of the foreign winemakers and consultants working with wineries here, actually lives here. And,

It's finally spring! The snow is over for real now and warmer weather is already here. I for one cannot wait to get back to gardening and sitting on my balcony. What are you excited about this spring? With warmer weather on the rise, many might be thinking it's time to switch to drinking rosés and white. But there is still room for red wine! What does your horoscope say you should try drinking in April? Read on and find out! Aquarius (January 20 - February 18) What's that saying about April showers bringing May flowers? This month will give you a fresh perspective if you take a few risks. Speak up

Sultaniye (sool-tan-ee-yeh) is possibly the most commonly grown grape in Turkey. While a perfectly viable vitis vinifera variety, Sultaniye has such high sugar levels that it also works well as a table grape. Turkey stands as one of the world's leading producers of table grapes and raisins but Sultaniye grapes also are used in pekmez (molasses) and rakı production.  Despite not being a popular wine grape, wineries do use it in wine production. This mid-season ripening grape grows primarily in the Aegean region (Denizli and Manisa) and prefers hot climates and clay loam or chalky soils. Berries grow to a medium size, are round, have a bright green color,

It may not seem like it with all the rain and cold days, but spring is just around the corner. Lent starts tomorrow (what are you sacrificing this year?), and soon Easter will come. What else is around the corner? What does your horoscope say you should try drinking in March? Read on and find out! Aquarius (January 20 - February 18) Introspection is your word of the month. Take some time this month to focus on the deeper emotional needs in your life that you don't usually allow yourself to think about or even acknowledge. You needn't confront anyone with anything this month if you're not ready. It's perfectly fine to

Many are shocked to discover the high percentage of women who work in the Turkish wine industry. Something like 65% are women including winery owners, viticulturalists, winemakers and oenologists, and especially, harvest technicians. Last March, I wrote a piece for The Vintner Project about women in the Turkish wine industry. My friend and colleague in wine, if you will, Tûba de Wilde has gone beyond just writing and takes a different approach to highlighting women in the industry. Vinatuu Wine Explorer & Event Maker After completing her bachelor of Tourism and Event Management in Bruges, Belgium, Tûba worked in tourism and communications around Europe while continuously training via courses and seminars

What does your horoscope say you should try drinking in February? Read on and find out! Aquarius (January 20 - February 18) When was the last time you felt entirely like yourself?
