  Canan at Gordias doesn't make a lot of white wines. But when she does, like her Nana Narince and Fesleğen, they're worth tracking down! I recently revisited the Gordias Sauvignon Blanc and don't know why it took me so long to do so! While her Kalecik Karası and some of her other reds are pretty accessible, this isn't an easy wine to find. I had to get it direct from the winery.   Canan's wines often fly under the radar, but the Gordias Oğan wasn't even on mine. Until I happened to spot a bottle of it at Solera.  Located in Central Anatolia in Polatlı, a bit south-west of Ankara, Gordias winery works with a wide range of native and international grapes. Of course Kalecik Karası features heavily in the wines as do Narince, Fesleğen, Hasandede, Öküzgözü, and Boğazkere.   The Gordias Kalecik Karası Beyazı was one of the standout wine surprises I found this spring. I think it's been around for a while but Canan's wines aren't always easy to find.   Hasandede is one of those grapes that doesn't get a lot love. According to 'Wine Grapes', Hasandede makes "very basic-quality white wine." Maybe that was true when the book was copywritten in 2012. But it's far from true now. And while it may not be true (any longer) that the grape makes only basic-quality wines, what sadly is true is how little we know about the grape itself.   The Hasandede grape hails from Turkey's Central Anatolia region. It has historically not been shown a lot of love by the winemaking community. But hopefully, this is changing. Kalecik-based Vinkara first began using it some years ago and makes a varietal Hasandede as part of its Winehouse line. Gelveri, located between Cappadocia and Aksaray, uses it to make amphora-aged skin-contact wines.
