Well, we’ve made it one month into the new year. Hopefully we all made it through relatively unbruised. Now, as we head into the darkest of winter (or the hellish depths of summer depending on where you are!) we more than ever need some good news and good wine to cheers us, warm (or cool!) us, and give us the courage to soldier on.
So, what does this month have in store for each of us? Read on to find out!
Aries (March 21 – April 19)
February asks you to slow your roll just enough to aim better. You’re still driven, but this month is about strategy over speed. A pause, or a pivot, ends up saving you time later. Fikret Özdemir, founder of Ma’Adra winery, is your vibe soulmate this month. When he started out on his journey to open a winery, his singular focus was concentrated on preparing the vineyards. Yes, this is generally the focus of a new winery! But few go about it the way he did by painstakingly preparing the land, in his case the slopes of the Madra Mountains in the northern Aegean, by pulling out large rocks, old tree stumps, and cutting new terraces into the slops. Honor your vibe and his focus this month with a bottle of the Ma’Adra Pinot Noir!

Gemini (May 20 – June 20)

Collaboration comes in many forms. In the wine world, for example, you could like at grape blends as a sort of collaboration – a delicious one! This February, take that idea to heart and pick up a bottle of the Arcadia Odrysia Gris. This dangerously drinkable wine is a blend of Sauvignon Gris and Pinot Gris. It pairs well with food, is happy on its own, and loves to be shared. And bonus, because it’s oddly overlooked by many, you can often find it for a pretty decent price. However, you won’t find it for long! As of the 2025 vintage, Arcadia is no longer making this beauty so, get it before it’s gone!

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

Putting yourself out there and being vulnerable is scary, no less so for winemakers when they get started. When Hayrı Arpa made the leap from being a grape grower to a winemaker, he really put himself out there. This month, take a lesson from this big-hearted man’s bravery and get a bottle of this Kuzeybağ Öküzgözü*.

Such as with great wine blends, like that most Turkish of blends, Öküzgözü and Boğazkere. This month, drink the Büyülübağ Öküzgözü Boğazkere.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22)
February is about refining your day-to-day life. Small tweaks lead to big relief, especially around health, work, or routines. You’re more effective when you stop trying to be perfect and start being present.

The wine for you …
It’s less quiet confidence and more a brazen style that flavors Paşaeli and its wine experiments. That aside, this winery matches your vibe and energy this month. Small tweaks leading to big things? Check. Refining what could otherwise be considered ordinary? Check. So, this month, take something that the winery tweaked to perfection and drink the Paşaeli Çakal Pét-Nat!
Because it is decidedly not and every day wine, it’s not super widely available. You can for sure find it at Solera. Check also Comedus, maybe Mensis Mahzen, La Commune, or Casa Botti.
Libra (September 23 – October 22)
Joy takes center stage this month. February encourages play, creativity, and leaning into pleasure without guilt. Romance or artistic inspiration gets a boost when you stop overanalyzing the outcome and just enjoy the moment.
Power Move: Say yes to fun without justification.
Your Vibe: Romantic, radiant, effortlessly cool.

For a fun and effortlessly cool wine that matches your vibe this month, drink the Arda Dokuz Sekiz (white). A classic white Bordeaux blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, this is Arda’s table wine but it is surprisingly good for what it is. And because it’s so darn quaffable, will be a crowd pleaser if you decide to take it to any of those events you’ll be attending!
Check places that sell Arda generally for this, Rind may well have it, Carrefour usually does, probably your local tekel!
Scorpio (October 23 – November 22)
Home and inner security are your focus in February. You’re redefining what “safe” really means, and making choices that support your emotional foundation. A family matter or personal realization brings closure, and relief.

Your February vibe resonates with the resilience, power, and literal rootedness of old vines. To honor those venerable plants, this month splurge a little on one of Turkey’s old vines wines: Heraki Patkara. Grapes for this come from 60+ year old vines that cling over 1000 meters to the marine fossil-studded limestone of the Taurus mountains. The resulting wine is savory and powerful, perfectly suited to your vibe.
Get this wine at places like La Commune, Kiffe, Mensis Mahzen, La Cave, İyi Şarap, Santé Wine & More, Gözde Tekel, Casa Botti, etc. But get it before it’s gone! Heraki couldn’t get the grapes for 2025 so what’s on the shelf is all there is.
Sagittarius (November 23 – December 22)
February keeps you curious and moving. Short trips, new ideas, or unexpected news shake up your routine in the best way. Speak your truth, but don’t forget to listen, there’s wisdom waiting in the details.
Power Move: Follow the thread of curiosity.
Your Vibe: Light on your feet, sharp on delivery.

Stretch your curiosity far this month and check out one of the newest grapes to (re)emerge in Turkey: the Likya His Gemre Siyahi. Likya has been quite busy the last few years hunting down a number of heretofore unknown grape varieties, thereby assuaging their own curiosity about the grapes that might have once been made into wine in ancient Lydia. The His Gemre Siyahi is just one of the most recent they’ve uncovered as part of their Arkeo Project.
This isn’t going to be super widely available. For sure check Santé Wine & More. Rind often has a lot of Likya’s wines. You might have luck at Mahzen 26, Mensis Mahzen, or La Cave as well.
Capricorn (December 23 – January 19)
Money, self-worth, and priorities come into focus this month. February asks you to recognize your value without tying it solely to productivity. A practical decision boosts your confidence and your bank account, or at least your peace of mind.
Power Move: Charge what you’re worth.
Your Vibe: Secure, self-assured, still soft.

While considering money and self-worth this month, don’t forget to factor in wine. A lot of wines (well really almost all of them these days) are massively overpriced. But every once in a while, the wine does justify the price, like the Corvus Passito. The wine is not cheap. But it’s worth it. And remember that sweet wines keep for several week after being opened (as long as they’re in the fridge!) so, yes the price tag is a splurge but you can enjoy it over a longer period.

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)
It’s your season, and it shows. February puts you in the driver’s seat, encouraging bold self-expression and personal reinvention. Do something that feels true, even if it surprises people. Especially if it surprises people.

This month, you’re drinking the Kayra Karkuş. Why? Well, a) Karkuş (aka Kerküş) is a fantastic grape and we should all drink more of it. But more importantly b) this is NOT a skin contact wine! Surprise!! Karkuş has such naturally pigmented and thick skins that a direct press white wine with this grape results in this insane amber color.
Get this from places like Carrefour, Comedus, Macro Center, Mensis Mahzen, Solera, likely La Cave, etc.
Pisces (February 19 – March 20)
February is quieter, but deeply meaningful. You’re tying up emotional loose ends and preparing for a fresh chapter. Rest isn’t avoidance, it’s preparation. Insight arrives when you stop searching for it.

Your Vibe: Intuitive, restored, quietly luminous.
The wine for you …
Quietly luminous is a description that comes to mine when talking about the Vinaida Derin 2 from Ayda Bağları. A blend of Narince and Sauvignon Blanc, this stunning wine has often sent me into raptures. While not easy to find, matching this wine to your vibe this month will transport you to a whole new level so it is worth tracking down.
Sadly, Ayda Bağları wines aren’t super available in stores in Istanbul. You might have luck at Santé Wine & More or Dekante. You can of course always order from the winery. But if nothing else, Bağ Pera has this on the shelves.
