Ayda Bağları VinAida 2: Sauvignon Blanc meets Narince

Some grapes are natural blending partners. Cabernet Sauvingon and Merlot. Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Boğazkere and Öküzgözü. But what about Sauvignon Blanc and Narince?

Narince is one of Turkey’s most popular white grapes. Sauvingon Blanc is just one of the most popular grapes here period. But they’re not often seen together. Arcadia makes a blend of these, but in tiny quantities and it’s next to impossible to find. Now, however, Ayda Bağları is getting into the game with a blend of its own!

turkish wineNarince’s weight balances so well with the high acidity from Sauvignon Blanc. Both grapes share a citrus element in their flavor profile and compliment each other with a marriage of tropical and stone fruit flavors with Narince’s floral character playing well with Sauvignon Blanc’s herbaceousness.

VinAida 2, 2020

The Sauvingon Blanc and Narince fermented on native yeasts in oak barrels. It poured a medium hay-gold.

Intense aromas of tobacco flower, citrus, and exotic and unripe stone fruit (loquat). On the palate it had the weight and almost oiliness some Narinces have along with the racy acidity of Sauvignon Blanc. Again, tobacco flowers but mingled with flavors of ginger blossom, finger limes, and apricot jam. Medium plus body, lingering finish, and a dangerous 15% abv. Dangerous, because the balance is there and you really won’t notice how high the alcohol is until you’ve finished the whole bottle and then maybe regret it a little. Possibly I know from experience.

Sold out most places – including the winery! But Santé Wine & More in Etiler still has a few bottles. And while you’re in there, you can also buy my book!
