Advent Wine Challenge Day 21: Büyülübağ Mirandus
Normally I quite like the wines from Büyülübağ. Other than his Adakarası wines, I don’t tend to drink them often because I don’t really need or want more Cabernet Sauvignon or Syrah…but his wines are well-made and quite nice. So, I was excited to see a new wine from him last winter at one of the Gusto Bar events. Or maybe it was two springs ago? Gusto Bar tastings all kind of blend together now since it’s just the same people with the same wine twice a year every year now.

Advent day 21
Büyülübağ Mirandus, 2021
The Büyülübağ Mirandus is an interesting blend with Çalkarası and Boğazkere from Denizli, Syrah from Manisa, and Cabernet Sauvignon from Avşa all together. No notes on winemaking but if there was any oak it was neutral and limited.
The nose was really promising with layers of fruit and earth. Black fruits mostly like blackberry, mulberry, plum, and olive complimented by brown spices, a dash of black pepper, perfumed violets, and leather. The palate though left me down. Sigh. Fruits were tarter and transitioned from black to red, lots of sour cherry really with some green pepper notes. Medium-bodied with low tannins, medium acidity, 13.3%, and a rather blessedly short finish.
