Falling in Love with Pink, One Rosé at a Time: Prodom Rosé

I am slowly slowly coming around to rosé. Well, I say “slowly slowly” but I’m discovering more and more wines that I enjoy. In fact, I dare say that I might be a full-on fan of rosé. I’ve avoided a fair number of wines because of my previously anti-rosé stance and I’m trying to correct that. Now I’m digging up pink wines I’d previously bypassed and have uncovered a couple gems!

Prodom, one of Turkey’s Aegean wineries based outside İzmir has made a rosé for years. I’ve never tried it. But when one of my favorite wine shops, Mensis Mahzen, recommended it, I decided to give it a go. So glad I did!

Prodom Rosé, 2020

An interesting blend of grapes make up this wine: Syrah, Merlot, and Kalecik Karası, all sourced from Prodom’s Güney vineyards. Very pale in the glass with that Provence-style color but nonetheless a pretty ballerina pink with touches of peachy-orange.

Like the color, the nose was delicate but oh so pretty. Fruity aromas of raspberry and strawberry with hints of tropical melon and guava fruits. Vivid acidity that gave the wine an almost textural, tingly feeling. Medium-bodied with 13.5% abv and mid-palate weight. Lots of fruit flavor here like a tropical and berry fruit salad dressed with a squeeze of pink lemon.

I paired the Prodom Rosé with a strawberry feta and salmon salad and they were so lovely together.
