Suvla Reserve Cabernet Franc 2015
Suvla Wines, on the tip of the Gallipoli Peninsula offers a huge range of wines. Currently the winery produces some 12 or 13 series. Many wines, like Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Karasakız, and Yapıncak feature across multiple series which gives consumers the chance to compare single grapes across quality levels.
Unfortunately, the Cabernet Franc comes only at the Reserve level. A real pity as I would love to make a comparison tasting.
Suvla Reserve Cabernet Franc 2015 Tasting Notes
There’s a lot of ‘medium’ happening with this wine: medium alcohol (13.5%), medium-bodied, medium (plus) acidity, a medium ruby color…
But nothing about the flavor is medium!
Twelves months in French barrique helped round and deepen the grape’s inherit aromas. Floral top notes of violet perfumed ripe purple plums and black cherry fruits. Black pepper and earth added spiciness and depth while a hint of freshly torn mint added a bright lift to the bouquet.
Silky and elegant, the wine burst with flavors of black cherry and pepper that lingered through a finish with the sensation of mint.
Nicely made, well able to age for some time yet, I enjoyed the Suvla Reserve Cabernet Franc. However, given the increasing breadth of Cabernet Franc available in Turkey, and the quality of those wines, I remain unconvinced that the Suvla was worth the money.
