Summer is definitely in full swing and we have the hot temperatures to prove it! Are you absolutely melting or hiding inside with your AC? Most of the year, I complain about having to walk up all the stairs to my flat but around now I start appreciate being higher up and being able to catch the breeze.
Since it is so hot, I’m drinking a lot of white and rosé. I’m eyeing some of my lighter reds as well though, remember that so many of those can be chilled! What will you be drinking in August? Read on and find out what your horoscope suggests!
Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)
Ready for a summer fling, Aquarius? The heat of summer has your love life heating up and encouraging you to open yourself up and embrace the romance that’s headed your way.
With all this romance flying around in the air, you may find yourself feeling more charismatic and sociable. Use that energy for more than your romantic life!
The wine for you …
If you’re gearing up for a summer fling then do it feeling pretty in pink with Vinolus Rosé! Vibrant, fresh, and fruity, it will put you in the mood for loooove. But do not mistake this for a “girly” wine. Unless it’s a girl with a strong right hook because this will knock you flat with its high alcohol.
You’re likely to find this at places like Casa Botti, Dekante, Grape Wine Boutique, Mensis Mahzen etc.
Pisces (February 19 – March 20)
Head in the clouds, Pisces? Time to come back down to earth. Use August to find equilibrium to your daily routine and to focus on your priorities and well-being.
That doesn’t have to mean that it’s all work and no play though. Leos are all about fun and pleasure and August is the month of the lion. Just keep in mind that balance is the key. Try finding excitement in even the most ordinary of things.

If you’re looking for excitement in the ordinary…me personally I think Hasandede is exciting on its own, even though Wine Grapes describes the wines as being ho-hum (I’m paraphrasing). But if you want next level Hasandede, try the Gelveri Hasandede. Made with full skin contact in ancient küp, it’s an entirely different experience.
Not always easy to find but you can look at La Cave, possibly still Dekante still has a few bottles. Restaurants like Mikla, Solera, possibly Neolokal have it on their lists.
Aries (March 21 – April 19)
Make some room for a little passion, Aries. No, not that kind you cheeky monkey. Your PASSION. August is the month to throw your focus into creative projects that fire up your soul.
Especially for you Aries with artsy and musical leanings, August is going to bring a boost to your confidence. But, be it art, music, general creativeness…keep your imagination open and go for it this month.
The wine for you …
For inspiration, try the Midin Baluto Karkuş . Midin Şarapçılık was a family passion project to revive old vineyards in southeast Anatolia and it’s taken off in a big way. We see very little of the rare Karkuş grape, and even that only exclusively from Assyrian wineries like Midin. Drinking this wine is an experience you won’t forget and will hopefully fire up your own passions!
I’ve seen it at Grape Wine Boutique, Mahzen 26, and Mensis Mahzen but it may be elsewhere now too!
Taurus (April 20 – May 20)
Feeling a little run-down because you’ve been going at full speed for a long time? Hit the snooze button on outside matters and take a break this August. For one thing, it’s just too dang hot to run around trying to do everything.
Take some down time for yourself (inside with the AC on full blast!) and take care of your heart and mental health.
The wine for you …
A nice, easy, don’t have to think too hard about it wine for you this month! 7Bilgeler Lasos rosé. For one thing, it’ll really hit the spot in this heat! But it’s also a perfectly lovely wine to sip on its own or pair with light dishes.
So that you can continue on your ‘taking it easy’ path, this wine is pretty widely available. You can find it at places like Comedus, Dekante, İyi Şarap, La Cave, Mahzen 26, Mensis Mahzen, Santé Wine & More…and possibly Casa Botti, Macro Center, etc.
Gemini (May 20 – June 20)
Beware of August, Geminis. This month your mind will be moving a 1,000 miles an hour and your common sense and vocal filters might not always be running apace. Be careful especially of moments when you find yourself speaking before thinking. This is going to lead to having to smooth over hurt feelings and social gaffs later when you don’t let your diplomacy filter catch up.
It’s not all caution and gloom this month though. Some bold ideas will present themselves while your mind is working in overtime. Make sure to keep a notebook or your phone around to jot down ideas as they pop into your brain!
The wine for you …
Sobran Bağları has had many bold ideas. They’re the only winery in Turkey working with Nebbiolo (they made a red, rosé, and blanc de noir!). This year they’re releasing the Sobran Emir. We all know Emir comes from Cappadocia. Not Sobran’s. It comes from Denizli. And it ferments on the skins for a few hours giving it a texture and structure like nothing we’ve seen before from this grape.
Not sure yet but it’s worth the hunt! Solera I think will start carrying it soon and likely places like Mensis Mahzen, Grape Wine Boutique etc…places that already carry Sobran wines should be getting it in stock this month. Or, you know, reach out to Sobran!
Cancer (June 21 – July 22)
Treat August like an internal month. You don’t have to do that literally (although who wouldn’t want the AC over the melting humidity?). This is more though about figuring out new ways to bring comfort and stability into your life.
Take some time to focus on what you value most. Both in regards to work, finances, and life goals as well as relationships.
The wine for you …
I know it’s hot…but if you’re already inside with the AC, why not crack open a red wine? And what’s more stable in Turkey than the Cabernet crop? Arda Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the best price for value Cabs in the country. In fact, they’re so good you should buy two and cellar one for a few years. They age beautifully.
Arda wines aren’t hard to find! Look for them at Dekante, La Cave, Mensis, Rind, Santé Wine & More, possibly Casa Botti, and elsewhere.
Leo (July 23 – August 22)
Leos, you burn brightly under most circumstances but this month there is no stopping or hiding your glow. Now is a great time to pursue those huge goals and focus on your inner growth — just don’t forget to uplift others, too.
Of course, no goal comes without challenges and bumps in the road. Sadly, not even you can blast away roadblocks with the might of your glory. Don’t be discouraged and use these small challenges as ways to develop new skills with which to arm yourself.

Okay so, I’m a Leo and it’s my birthday month so I’m recommending what I want to drink! Suvla Reserve Karasakız Sparkling 2014. I’m not going to mess you about. It’s pricey. But if you’re a Leo you recently had or will be having a birthday so treat yo’self! It’s a beautiful wine.
Naturally you can find this at any of the Suvla shops (Kanyon, Changir, etc). Santé Wine & More also carries it.
Virgo (August 23 – September 22)
Take this month to rest and relax – physically and mentally. Explore meditation, yoga, reiki (let me know if you need someone for that), spirituality, religion…whatever it is that you think will help you calm your mind and body. You need this month of relaxation and introspection to prepare for the frenetic pace that’s coming your way.
While you’re already rummaging around in your mind and plumbing the depths of your psyche; take the chance to ferret out those passions and dreams that you keep hidden up there. No matter how impractical they may seem, you can find the path to achieving them.

Nif Bağları knows about making dreams happen. When the winery first got started, Gaye Özcan was told she had to plant Bordeaux varieties to be successful. But she didn’t want to. She wanted to plant Italian grapes. She also got started at the time when sweet and semi-sweet Bornova Misketi were the norm. She was one of the first to make a successful dry version. That’s you’re drink this month, the Nif Bornova Misketi.
Look for it at Casa Botti, Dekante, İyi Şarap, La Cave, Mensis Mahzen, etc.
Libra (September 23 – October 22)
Get out your day planner, Libras! You’re going to be enjoying a packed social schedule this month. You tend to be a social animal and soaking up a little of Leo’s fiery energy this month is going to kick that into overdrive.
Just don’t forget to make time for yourself and recharge in between social engagements!
The wine for you …
Arcadia Sauvignon Blanc Narince isn’t a social butterfly like you are. In fact, it’s pretty hard to track down. Sometimes you can find it at Mensis Mahzen, but you’re better off just getting in touch with Arcadia.
Hard to find but this will become your new favorite white wine. Sauvignon Blanc and Narince work so well together and this is one of the finest examples.
Scorpio (October 23 – November 22)
Prepare to be bold this month! Take some risky moves in your career during August. They have the potential to reap some pretty big rewards if done properly.
It may even feel like obstacles magically disappear from your path. BUT (there’s always a but) keep in mind that the easy path is not always the right path.

Whether or not it was an easy path, Diren knows how to stay on it. They’ve been making wine since the 40s, put Narince on the wine map, and have no released an anniversary reserve wine, the Vasfi Diren 1921 Narince. All the character that Narince has with a delicate touch of oak and a much more skillful winemaking hand than I thought Diren could pull off.

Sagittarius (November 23 – December 22)
Dig out your passport Sagittarius. August means travel for you. Follow your desire for knowledge and new experience down unfamiliar roads.
While you’re out and about, seize the chance to take a class or lesson on something local. Cooking, art, a history seminar, kite surfing…you might discover a new passion, hobby, or even potential life path!
The wine for you …
A voyage, via plane, ship, train, or book, needs a proper send off! Try the Doluca Bianca bubbles for this. Made in the extra brut style so there’s a touch of sweetness to balance the acidity, this is a fairly simple sparkler. Infused with Co2, it doesn’t have the depth of tank or traditional method bubbles…but that means you’re saving a little money for your travel!
Find it at Carrefour, Macro Center, Migros, Solera, etc.
Capricorn (December 23 – January 19)
You seldom depend on others for help, Capricorn, but if ever you’re going to allow yourself to do so, it’s August. Shocking revelations may have you in need of support and the wisdom of others.
Don’t be afraid to lean on friends and family or leave them in charge.
The wine for you …
Even wine leans on friends from time to time…when they’re in the same blend that is. Kayra Versus Chardonnay Viognier is a great example of a well-blended wine in which the two grapes support each other creating harmony. Even if you tend to shy away from Chardonnay, trust me on this one, it’s a lovely, juicy, scrummy wine without all of that oak mess that puts us all off Chardonnay.
Get it from Dekante, La Cave, Macro Center, Mensis Mahzen, probably even larger Carrefours, and so on.
