Urla Sauvignon Blanc 2015

More and more Turkey is becoming a great country for Sauvignon Blanc. The diverse microclimates and terroirs contribute to a wide range of personalities for this wine. Steely, Chablis-like Sauvignon Blanc from producers like Saranta and Doseluna; ripe and rich examples like those from Umurbey and Porta Caeli; classy fumé blanc styles like Chamlija’s and Sevilen’s; and even a botrytized dessert wine from Arcadia. We have them all.

Urla Winery

Urla Winery, located in the same named Izmir province, also has a Sauvignon Blanc in the game. The winery sits on approximately 350 acres of vineyard. At Urla they are committed to following good agricultural practices. In addition to protecting natural resources; they also aim to understand and enrich them. In fact, Urla Winery is entirely energy sufficient.

Urla Winery uses the gravity-flow method completely eliminating pumps. As a result, the winery can produce elegant wines without forcing or traumatizing the grapes. From vineyard to bottle, the Urla team takes great care with everyone of their 250,000-300,000 bottles.

Urla Sauvignon Blanc 2015

The Sauvingon Blanc grapes from from Urla’s Kavacik vineyards. Planted on slopes at a high elevation above Urla, grapes here take advantage of long, warm days, cool nights, and breezes of the Aegean Sea.

Urla Sauvignon Blanc 2015 Tasting Notes:

Geographically and stylistically, the Urla Sauvignon Blanc provides a nice bridge between Doseluna’s steel and Umurbey’s ripe fruit.

The brilliant straw gold color hints at the citrussy aromas that lie within. Lemon, peach, and slate aromas swirl headily out of the glass. Medium-bodied with 13.5% abv, and a long, elegant finish. Lively acid tingles on the tongue like fresh lemon zest and mingles with fruit and wet stone.
