Gordias Kalecik Karası Beyazı??
The Gordias Kalecik Karası Beyazı was one of the standout wine surprises I found this spring. I think it’s been around for a while but Canan’s wines aren’t always easy to find. The first time I tried it was this past May’s CMC event and it was love at first sip.
She’s billing the wine as “Beyazı” (white) but it’s really a very very pale rosé. Kayra also makes a similar wine, the Allure Kalecik Karası Beyaz. White, pink, purple, blue…I don’t care what color this wine looks or gets called. I just want to drink it all!
Gordias Kalecik Karası Beyazı, 2021
Canan clearly made this using the direct press method, getting the skins away from the grape juice as quickly as possible. I cannot imagine another way to get such a pale pink from a 100% Kalecik Karası. It’s not a grape overly high in anthocyanins to begin with, but very few rosés achieve this kind of color: a pale, almost ethereal peach with platinum highlights.
And it just got prettier from there.
A kaleidoscope of aroma came hurtling out of the glass. Black currants, botanical raspberry leaf, bright grapefruit, and jasmine all vied for attention. One sip puckered my mouth from both the tart flavors and the bone dry feeling. On the palate flavors leaned more citrus with freshly squeezed Meyer lemon and grapefruit mingling with a kind of raspberry lemonade vibe and sweet tarts, finishing with a delicate floral touch.
If you haven’t had this, you need to get it!
