Your June 2022 Turkish Wine Horoscope
Most of my May seedlings have perished due to neglect. I’m afraid this is not going to be my year for plants! I’m travelling too much during these sensitive, early weeks. Despite the likelihood that my balcony won’t be quite as picturesque as it was last year, I am looking forward to sitting out there with some wine!
What will I be drinking? What will you be drinking in June? Read on and find out what your horoscope suggests!
Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)
Things are heating up this month, Aquarius, and I don’t mean just the weather!
Get your flirt on this month! Don’t be afraid to make the first move on someone. Whatever comes out of it may not last forever but it won’t even get off the ground if you don’t try. Better to take a little disappointment (that is-if he/she says no!) than regret that you never took the chance.
If new love isn’t in the cards for you this month, indulge yourself in other pleasurable activities. Hit the hamam and get pampered, take a stay-cation at an upscale hotel, get out of the city for a long weekend … indulge yourself!
The wine for you …
Nothing says indulgent more than bubbles! The newest one on the market here comes from Arcadia, a pét-nat based on Pinot Gris. It’s foamy (so much so that it WILL foam over when you open it), creamy, full of pear blossom and fruit flavors.
Be careful when shopping around for this one because prices vary enormously. I’ve seen it everywhere from 325 TL to 450 TL. Look for it at Casa Botti, Grape Wine Boutique, Mensis Mahzen, La Cave, and likely Dekante.
Pisces (February 19 – March 20)
This is a month of emotions for you Pisces and you may be feeling sentimental or wistful; especially in regards to your family. 
Many people go back to their family if they’ve been having tough times, but there’s no reason to reach out to them only in that circumstance. Sometimes we need the closeness of family or just plain miss them. If they’re nearby, take the time to visit your family this month. If they’re not, set up some Zoom calls. Heck, have game night on Zoom!
If there’s one thing good the pandemic did for us was to (ironically) draw us closer to those far away. For many, because we’re mostly back to our old life, we’ve let go of those family and friends group calls and virtual happy hours. Reinstate one to continue that closeness you built over the last few years.
The wine for you …
Likya is a winery that knows all about staying close with family as its run by brothers. While I think you can’t go wrong with pretty much any of their wines, this month, try the Likya Narince. It’s a little more fresh and crisp than a lot of others and perfect for this weather.
Look for it broadly wherever Likya wines are: Carafe Istanbul, Dekante, La Cave, Rind, Solera etc.
Aries (March 21 – April 19)
Eggshells my Aries friends. The God of War is not always known for his subtlety but try to channel what he does have and tread lightly this month. Don’t respond impulsively to anything you find incendiary in order to avoid major conflict.
While you’re at it, have some patience with your friends. Take the time to listen to them as much as you talk at them.
The wine for you …
Walking on eggshells requires a delicate step so you need a delicate wine. I know what you’re thinking but no, not a Narince. Nahita Emir by Argos. Based in Uçhisar, Argos crafts a subtle expression of Emir with delicate, citrus notes of lime (fruit, leaf, and blossom!).
Not an easy one to track down, but if you’re determined to find it, Dekante has it.
Taurus (April 20 – May 20)
Like the O’Jay’s said, “Money money money money, moneyyy!” While Taurus tend to take things slow and steady and think things through, you might find yourself influenced this month to be a little more free with your finances.
It’s okay to splurge now and then, especially these days in Turkey when even water seems like an indulgence, but make sure you have balance with your financial matters.
The wine for you …
Indulge when you can! But if you can’t you want a summer wine that has great value for money. Çamlıbağ Vasilaki is your wine. Crisp, refreshing, great for pairing with light, summery foods like salads, ceviche, and meze.
You’ll find this wine in a few places around including İyi Şarap, La Cave, Mensis Mahzen, Online Mahzen, possibly Rind, and a few other places.
Gemini (May 20 – June 20)
Apparently we’re in the Gemini season (literally no idea what that means) which serves to amplify your Gemini-ness. Which I also am not really clear on.
However, what I can tell you is that June brings opportunities to take on big ideas and express yourself. That idea niggling away at the back of your brain? Go for it.
The wine for you …
Someone else with a big idea was the woman behind Vinkara Yaşasın. Ardıç Gürsel wanted to open a winery to introduce people to native Turkish grapes and to make the first traditional method wine with a Turkish grape. And she did both. Sadly prices are up everywhere but I still maintain that this is the most reasonably priced traditional method bubbles here.
Vinkara Yasasin also has the advantage of being pretty much everywhere. Carafe Istanbul, Carrefour, Casa Botti, Dekante, Grape Wine Boutique, İyi Şarap, La Cave, Macro Center, Mahzen 26, Mensis Mahzen, Santé Wine & More, Vinus…you get the idea.
Cancer (June 21 – July 22)
June will prompt you to explore spirituality and your dreams. Your actual while sleeping dreams, I mean.
Try keeping a dream journal this month. Often dreams serve as the most fertile ground for self-realization and opening doors to your subconscious. Writing them down will give you the opportunity to study and interpret and carry those lessons into your awake life.
The wine for you …
There’s a certain quality of sweet wine in Italy that they call vino da meditazione, a wine for meditating. We don’t quite have those here, but you can still have a reflect while sipping on Paşaeli Morso Sole, a sweet wine made from sundried Sultaniye grapes.
Hunt it down for sure at La Cave and Mensis Mahzen.
Leo (July 23 – August 22)
June is all go, go, go for you Leos. You will soar at the height of your social butterfly abilities. Be careful to not burn out though. You cannot live indefinitely in the social limelight.
You’ll also need to practice patience when communicating with friends this month, especially if your social life makes maintaining those relationships difficult. Take a deep breath, count to ten, then speak.
The wine for you …
The Selendi Sarnıç white blend sure knows how to be social…at least with other grapes! This fantastic blend of Chardonnay, Viognier, and Narince is refreshing and tropical and everything you want in a summer white! This may be, however, a good time for you to fold up your social butterfly wings and keep this beauty all to yourself!
Look for it at places like La Cave, Comedus, possibly Mensis, Dekante, and Carafe Istanbul among others.
Virgo (August 23 – September 22)
Work, work, work … although that might not be a bad thing this month. Keep your eye open for new career opportunities or the chance to rub shoulders with influential people in your industry. Use all that charm of yours while networking to make sure people remember you well. 
You might find that work is also a little frustrating this month. Take a beat, don’t let it overwhelm you, and try to have more patience with things.
The wine for you …
For you this month, try the Sevilen Yapıncak. Made with grapes from very old, gnarly vines Sevilen found along the Sea of Marmara, this is one of Turkey’s most distinct expressions of Yapıncak. With a unique personality and charm (like yours!) you’ll find that this quickly becomes a go-to wine for you.
Happily, it’s much easier to track down now than it used to be! Larger Carrefours (like the one in Cevahir) carry it as does Macro Center, possibly Metro, İyi Şarap for sure, and a few other places.
Libra (September 23 – October 22)
June brings curiosity and the desire to explore! Whether or not you have a place on the map already circled or you throw a dart and let fate decide, travel is in the cards for you this month.
Keep in mind that not all travel is literal though. Your destination could be metaphoric. Take a lead from the Cancers keeping a dream journal this month and make sure you know where your metaphoric destination is. Less easy than buying a ticket and getting on a plane, you may find that this kind of travel takes a lot more patience and flexibility.
The wine for you …
Extend that exploratory spirit to your wine selection and try Mozaik Mahrem Marselan this month! From Urla-based Mozaik, which has some of the more interesting and rare international grapes in Turkey, this is a grape you don’t want to miss! Full of cherry-cassis flavors with fine tannins and bright acidity, this Grenache-Cabernet cross is your next wine adventure.
Look for it on İyi Şarap, at Mahzen 26, Mensis Mahzen, Rind, and elsewhere.
Scorpio (October 23 – November 22)
June brings the chance to finally release any old grievances. Letting go is tough but remember that clinging to negative things only hurts you and hold you back. It doesn’t affect the other party(ies) involved at all. In fact, holding onto things means that they’re winning.
You really want to get revenge? Be like Elsa and let it go.
The wine for you …
While this particular Shakespearean sonnet has nothing to do with letting go of anything, a sip of the USCA Sonnet 99 Viognier will transport you to a place where you’ll not care at all about any of the rubbish clouding your mind.
I was going to apologize for i being not so easy to hunt down but then realized it’s not all that hard after all. Find it at Comedus, Dekante, Mahzen 26, Mensis Mahzen, Santé Wine & More … maybe I saw it at Casa Botti?
Sagittarius (November 23 – December 22)
Short and sweet for you this month, Sagittarius. Take stock of your relationships this June. Separate yourself from any people in your life who are dragging you down. Ensure those around you, especially in your inner circle, provide you with the support you need.

It’s not always easy to distance yourself from people who are bad for you. People can be an addiction as much as anything else and if you have anyone in your life like that for you, make the conscious decision to get away. There’s not people rehab but that’s one of the things your real friends are there to help you with.
The wine for you …
If you need an example of a good relationship, look at the interplay between the two grapes in the Büyülübağ Öküzgözü Boğazkere. Okay so maybe I’m reaching a bit for that connection (pun sort of intended!). Fruit-forward with an underlying earthy character, the wine presents a different take on this classic blend.
Look for it at İyi Şarap, Mensis Mahzen, and Vinus.
Capricorn (December 23 – January 19)
Unpredictable energy will put you on edge this June. Try shaking up your usual routine or spending some time being social to help put you back on an even keel. Get out and see your friends and/or family and soak up all the good energy from them.

The wine for you …
Try a bottle of Amadeus Grillo this month. This wine has an energy of its very own. Combined with flavors of yellow fruits and spice, this will counterbalance whatever has you on edge.
This one really is not easy to find but worth it. Your best bet is La Cave.
