Your May 2022 Turkish Wine Horoscope
I don’t know about you, but I have been thrilled with our weather the last week or two of April! I’m not ready yet for summer so I hope it holds steady. My seeds are all planted (some are even sprouting, huzzah!) and I look forward to chilling on the balcony with my plants, my cats, and some nice wine.
What will you be drinking in May? Read on and find out what your horoscope suggests!
Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)
Along with the flowers I planted on my balcony, your growth and maturity are blossoming. The last few years have thrown more than a few challenges your way but your ability to compose yourself and keep going have improved greatly. Regardless of what’s going on now, allow yourself time to celebrate what you have achieved!
To match the way the earth is now adorning itself with greenery and blossoms, have some fun in May decorating your home. Invest in some valuables (for your home or to adorn yourself!) but be careful to not get too indulgent and spend beyond your means.

Celebrate yourself and spring with Büyülübağ İris Adakarası rosé! I know what you’re thinking: “But Andrea, you don’t like rosé, why are you recommending it?!” True! But. I love Adakarası and the Büyülübağ İris is not your run of the mill pink wine that tastes…well pink. It’s spicy and herbal with crunchy red fruits. It’s good stuff.
Look for it at Comedus, Mahzen 26, and Mensis Mahzen.
Pisces (February 19 – March 20)
Don’t hold back this month, Pisces. While you are no stranger to holding your tongue when you have an opinion to express; you’ve found yourself biting your tongue more often than not lately. You’ll have the chance in May to stop doing that and will feel the need to speak from your heart about things that arise. Don’t overthink it either. Rely on your passion to give you the eloquence you’ll need.

Embolden yourself this month with Corvus Vinium Karalahna. Big, bad tannins, spicy as all get out, and red fruits. And if you’re thinking that it’s a little too warm for a red wine, this one does suprisingly well chilled.
You can often find it at Carrefour, Iyi Sarap, La Cave, La Commune, Macro Center, Mensis Mahzen, Online Mahzen, and Rind.
Aries (March 21 – April 19)
Aries, God of War does not often get associated with a compassionate heart. But you have one. Don’t be afraid to let it lead you this month. Be patient with those around you even while they’re annoying you or causing conflict in your life. You’re a caring person and that means knowing when to sacrifice and compromise.
Find a balance between your own strongly held values and keeping an open mind. Being open-minded doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice those values. In the end, it will help you hold onto that patience and compassion you need.

Nif Bağları Solaris will help broaden your mind. Created in Germany in the 70s to withstand cold growing regions, this grape has become popular in places like England, Denmark, and Sweden…but it does pretty well in the Aegean’s hot climate! Nif both blends it with Chardonnay and makes a varietal with it.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)
Look out for yourself this month Taurus. Take some time for a little self-pampering and indulgence. Go to the hamam, get a massage! May isn’t going to be particularly easy for you. Some trouble may come up at work which will affect your relationships with others.
Try not to worry overly though. You’ll get through it. Especially if you make taking care of yourself and giving yourself the permission to relax every once in a while.

A month of self-pampering calls for an indulgent wine. Try Uçmakdere’s Firuze Chardonnay. Oak-aged and golden, this wine practically drips with flavors of heavy, ripe tree fruit, spice, and vanilla.

Gemini (May 20 – June 20)
Looooove is in the air!
This is something that’s been on your mind for a while now but in the sunshine and flowers kind of way. People forget that love (romantic and otherwise) can be a pretty heavy topic. Take some time this month to think about what love means to you – and what it means to the people in your life. Don’t let the difficult aspects of it scare you off and step outside your comfort zone in a way that will allow you to more fully experience the breadth of this particular emotion.

To help smooth out those heavier feelings, try the wine of love this month! Vino Dessera Vin Amoris is a big old red blend that winery owner Doğan Dönmez created for his wife. Awwwww
Find it at Carafe Istanbul, Carrefour, Casa Botti, Dekante, La Cave, and Macro Center … note that it comes with both a red and a blue label. There’s no difference between the wines.
Cancer (June 21 – July 22)
How’s your motivation been, Cancer? Lagging? Well I’m right there with you. Luckily, all this glorious weather and the freshness of spring will help blow away those cobwebs and kick you back into gear.
While you’re running around being motivated, don’t forget to take some down time. I know you’re going to get excited about feeling energized and productive, but you’ll crash if you over do. Make space for down time, for spending time with those closest to you.
The wine for you …
Talk about motivated, last year Canan Gerimli introduced us all to two new grapes. Her Gordias Fesleğen was one of those. While she wasn’t quite sure last year how well or not it would do, it’s back again which means it did pretty well! Bright and citrusy, a few sips of this will help kick you into gear.
This one is NOT easy to track down. But if you’re committed, Casa Botti has it and Solera has carried it in the past. Dekante would also be a good bet.
Leo (July 23 – August 22)
All eyes are on your future, Leo. What do you want it to look like? Doesn’t matter if you want cozy and simple or bold and adventurous. To paraphrase Bon Jovi, it’s your life and it’s now or never. You, Leo, almost more than anyone, have the ability to manifest the future you want.
Keep in mind though that your forceful personality may be too much at times. Sometimes subtlety is what is needed. Pull that cloak of leonine majesty around you but make room for compromise and patience.

As a reminder that subtle doesn’t have to mean lacking in personality, try this month the Vinkara Hasandede – bonus if you can find the 2019 (it’s aged really well). Although I hear the 2021 is great too! With fruits starting to lean into the stone and tropical realm, there’s a richness to this wine buoyed by fresh acidity.
Happily it’s not hard to find and you can usually snag a bottle from Carrefour, Iyi Sarap, La Cave, Mahzen 26, Mensis Mahzen, and Santé Wine & More.
Virgo (August 23 – September 22)
You’re getting kind of a raw deal this May, Virgo. Whereas many others are being advised to take time for themselves, explore creative projects, get romantic…you need to think more about how you present yourself to the outside world. Your reputation’s taken a beating lately.
Have a think about why that might be and what you’ve been doing or saying that is making people think less of you. Use it to lay a new path moving forward, but don’t dwell on it. The past is the past and it cannot be changed so there’s no use wasting time bemoaning it. Learn and move on.

You deserve something nice this month to counterbalance what’s going on. Gürbüz Caro Vino is just the ticket for you. Akın’s take on Kalecik Karası balances richness with a savory earthiness. He doesn’t make a lot of wine with native grapes but when he does, you’ll want to drink them.
Look for it at Casa Botti, Iyi Sarap, Mahzen 26, Mensis Mahzen, and likely Rind.
Libra (September 23 – October 22)
May will bring you a few difficulties along with spring flowers. The heavier aspects of your life may feel overwhelming this month. One way to beat the urge to give into them is make time at least weekly for creativity. Doesn’t matter that that is: cooking a new recipe, going on a photo walk, trying your hand at origami or something else crafty. It doesn’t even have to be a big project. Just give yourself the break and enjoy the creativity.
Keeping a calm mind this month will also help clear away those dark clouds.
The wine for you …
Kayra Allure Rosé … or blanc de noir Kalecik Karası if you want to indulge them is your drink this month. I must admit, it drinks more like a white than a rosé! Lively acidity, delicate stone fruits, and fruit blossom will help lighten your load and your mood.
Being a Kayra wine, it’s also pretty widely available. Carrefour, Macro Center, Mensis Mahzen, and Santé Wine & More carry it, and likely other places do as well.
Scorpio (October 23 – November 22)
Like Gemini, love is the main topic of your life this month – specifically though romantic love.
A single Scorpio should take the time to care for him/herself. Your own contentment and well-being will help draw potential partners to you. And if you want to take the time also to primp a little and look your best; that’s certainly not going to hurt the cause!
Scorpios already in a relationship should essentially do the same. Making sure that you are well and content will only make you easier to be around, ergo will make your partner happier. Perhaps happy enough to spring a few romantic surprises!

Çakır Somnium Rosé has a deep pink-orange color that will have you thinking romantic thoughts! This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon rosé offers tangy tart flavors that will spice up your evening.
Dekante maybe has it but I know Grape Wine Boutique does!
Sagittarius (November 23 – December 22)
How you doin’ Sagittarius? Are you feeling okay? If you haven’t been to the doctor for a while, maybe go get a check up just to ensure everything is ticking along properly. And if anything feels off…definitely go to the doctor! Ignoring symptoms, even little things you brush off, will only lead to a larger problem later.
Keep in mind this month that health a well-being are an overall and forever concept. It’s not about fixing what’s “wrong” but making sure you’re good for the long haul.
The wine for you …
Try something nice and easy this month. The Sagavin Emir not only goes down easily, it’s easy on the wallet too. Fresh, crisp, uncomplicated. It won’t blow back your hair but you won’t regret having drunk it.
Sagavin is still a small enough winery that its wine can be difficult to track down. Casa Botti and Grape Wine Boutique at least carry several of their wines.
Capricorn (December 23 – January 19)
You’re joining several of your other zodiac companions this month in the creative realm. For you though, this isn’t an escape or a way to find equilibrium. This May, creativity is your calling. Perhaps it’s the weather, seeing the flowers bloom and the trees remember how to be green…whatever is causing it, give into the creative tide that’s swelling up inside. You’ll find that if you do, you’ll feel more energized, happier, and more able to deal with whatever life is throwing at you.
Taking the time for creative projects is never a waste of time.
The wine for you …
Likya Araxa Pinot Meunier rosé is pretty creative. If you’ve never heard of this grape I am not surprised. It’s one of the three main grapes used in Champagne production. Outside of Champagne few places cultivate it and even fewer do so as a still wine. Likya makes it as both a red and a rosé.
It’s a little on the pricey side at Carafe Istanbul, La Cave (maybe), Mahzen 26, and Mensis Mahzen…but worth it.
