Your November 2021 Turkish Wine Horoscope

It’s November and we’re fully into Autumn. For some people, cooler weather means a switch to red wine. But much like I will happily eat ice cream no matter how cold it is out, I would also still prefer to drink white wine! Is that what my horoscope holds for me this month?

What does your horoscope say you should try drinking in November? Read on and find out!

Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)

This is going to be a good month for you if you’ve been struggling to achieve a goal or move forward in your career. Breakthroughs are on the horizon but don’t get distracted by some communication issues you’re having with other people and miss your shot.

Don’t be afraid to explore your creative side in November, even if it’s been a little while since you tapped into that part of yourself.

Also…get ready for some l’amour!

The wine for you …

Sevilen’s Colombard Semillon is what happens when a winemaker gets creative! Sevilen’s head winemaker Sibel Çoban took these two grapes, long grown by the winery but never used in quality wine, and blended them. To top it off, she slapped on a fabulous half horse/half octopus label. Because why not?! Find it at stores like Macro Center and Migros.

 Pisces (February 19 – March 20)

Gird your loins and take some initiative this month. You could find that opportunities that were closed to you before are now yours for the taking. Keep your eyes open for those doors opening because they could lead you on your true path.

On the other hand, if you’ve been working hard on something, you could see it finally pay off this month.

The wine for you …

Chateau Nuzun’s Selvi Karası – Çatal Karası blend has all sorts of initiative and hard work behind it! Winery owner Nazan Uzun unearthed these two native grapes and has been hard at work propagating them for years now. In 2015, she finally had enough of both grapes to make a wine with them…but only enough to make a blend with both of them in it. Find it at Rind in Moda. 

Aries (March 21 – April 19)

If you were feeling a little run down last month, Aries, you should be feeling more yourself in November. A clear head and an energetic and passionate spirit will give you the drive you need to move forward with work and love.

Don’t let that energy get you too strung out though. If you’re yearning to deepen intimacy in your relationship you need to open up and be vulnerable with your partner.

The wine for you …

This November, you need a wine with energy and balance like Doluca’s Tanit (white), a blend of Chardonnay and Fiano. A little hard to find (try larger Macro Centers or Dekante) but totally worth it. Fresh, lively, and exactly what you need!

Taurus (April 20 – May 20)

Tauruses (-es? is that the right plural?) take some time in early November to clarify who and/or what you want. You’ll need that this month to take any significant steps forward in love.

As if that weren’t enough of its own mountain to summit, new and possibly collaborative opportunities could come your way for which you’ll also need that clear head. Don’t jump on just any opportunity though! You did all that soul searching early in the month specifically so as to not jump on the first thing to come your way.

The wine for you …

Mehmet Vuran of Garova vineyards knows both about waiting for the right thing and collaboration. He experimented with several grapes varieties before committing to the ones he now grows. One of which, Zinfandel, he sourced from fellow Bodrum winery, Karnas. Seek out the Garova Öküzgözü Zinfandel and see how his patience paid off! As will yours be after tracking down Garova’s not easy to find wines. Try looking for them at Vinus in Nişantaşı.

Gemini (May 20 – June 20)

Ah! The fogginess of the past should indeed be in the past this month! November will bring you so much clarity that you will practically be able to see the steps you need to take form in front of your eyes. Don’t put on blinders though and rush along that path unheeded. Maintain your day-to-day life and stay grounded.

And, if you’ve been in a relationship  that looks like it might be coming to an end…consider it a blessing.

The wine for you …

You know where your path is now so try a wine that doesn’t deviate from its own linear path. Saranta’s Chateau Murou Sauvignon Blanc is a stellar example of this grape. If you like New Zealand style Sauv Blanc you’ll love this. Look for this at Mensis Mahzen in Osmanbey and Dekante in Istiniye Park.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22)

November is huge for Cancers. You are on fire this month in all your creative, career, and love goals. If you tend to live more in your head, look at this month as your perfect chance to follow your heart instead.

More than this, November could also be a cathartic month for you. A secret may be revealed to you that will help you let go of a long-held fear or block.

The wine for you …

You need a wine enough fire and energy to keep up with you this month. Kavaklidere Altın Köpük is a tank method (or Martinotti or Charmat as you prefer) sparkling wine made with Emir. Searing Emir acidity, bubbles, citrus, green apple, and mineral flavors…you’ll thank me for this! Widely available, you should be able to find this at La Cave, Carrefour, Macro Center, Metro, and more. 

Leo (July 23 – August 22)

If you’ve been feeling less than hopeful about your future lately, November is going to turn that around for you. The crisp autumn air carries new hope which will motivate you to dig down and lay the foundations for the future you want.

New hope also brings a desire for new knowledge! Take a new course or buckle down on a skill you’ve been contemplating perfecting.

The wine for you …

Why should you try Likya Fersun this month? Well a couple reasons! For one thing, this is one Turkey’s rescued grapes brought back from the brink of extinction. What’s more hopeful than that? It’s also just pretty darn yummy. Look for Likya’s wines at Mensis Mahzen in Osmanbey, La Cave in Cihangir, and Rind in Moda.

Virgo (August 23 – September 22)

No more putting Baby in the corner, Virgo. November is the month to step back into the light. Do this by getting out of an emotional entanglement, confronting a fear, taking charge of your finances, or letting yourself realize how much talent you have.

The wine for you …

If any of Turkey’s more well-known grapes gets pushed in a corner, it’s often Sultaniye. While it’s not a wine grape (i.e. not belonging to the vitis vinifera class of grapes) a handful of wineries in Turkey do use it for wine. However, those wines are often insipid sweet wines or the grape gets used as a workhorse to carry a wine with a more expensive to produce blending partner. Not so with Paşaeli’s Sultaniye. In fact, Paşaeli makes both a dry and a sweet version of Sultaniye so you can try them both! Find it at La Cave in Cihangir.

Libra (September 23 – October 22)

November has a couple things in store for Libras. First, get yourself straight about your own values and self-worth. Once you’ve done that, clear the clutter – so to speak – to make sure you can maintain those. Even if the clutter is people.

In addition, seek out people those month who inspire you and learn from them. Use their example to push yourself in a positive way.

The wine for you …

You’re on a natural wine streak, Claros Merlot last month to Gelveri Kızıl Üzüm this month. Gelveri owner and winemaker Udo Hirsch is all about staying true to the grape with no chemicals before, during, or after the winemaking. You can find Gelveri’s wines at La Cave in Cihangir.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 22)

Scorpios, take November to check in with your physical and mental health. Take steps to improve your diet and movement (if need be). If you’re good there, look to other aspects of wellness. Take a hamam day!

If you’re all set there, check in on a plan or project you put down recently. Get back into that and take it to the next level.

Either way, don’t go crazy overboard with any related expenses because you could find yourself with an empty wallet by month’s end.

The wine for you …

Take that spa day mentality to the cellar and indulge in something a little more decadent with Prodom’s Late Harvest Misket. Don’t be afraid of it because it’s a sweet wine. Sold in half bottles, this sweet wine is indulgent without being saccharine or cloying. Try pairing it with some spicy foods for great balance! Look for this in a number of places including larger Macro Centers, La Cave in Cihangir, and Rind in Moda.

Sagittarius (November 23 – December 22)

Playful and fun-loving Sagittarians, November is the month to find some motivation and chase a dream. Motivation and purpose are all well and good, but don’t lose that creative, fun side of yourself because that’s your charm and, combined with a little level-headed drive, will help you succeed.

Single Sagittarians, you can also channel some new creativity into finding some love. Maybe team up with an Aquarius this month!

The wine for you …

Find a wine to match that playful sprit of yours this month! Sagavin’s Öküzgözü Kalecik Karası rosé is perfect for you. Rosé is not just for summer and this interesting blend from a young Antalya-based winery is fresh, fun, and quaffable. Not available yet in stores in Istanbul but Sagavin will ship and their wine prices are crazy reasonable!

Capricorn (December 23 – January 19)

Like the Cancers, November could be a cathartic month for you. However, while the impetus for their release comes from the outside, you are responsible for yourself here. Any grudges you’ve been hanging onto or bad feelings you just can’t let go of…now is the time to forgive and release.

While this will definitely help improve your mental health, you need to be looking to your physical health too. It’s very tempting in the chill weather to start eating like we’re all going into hibernation, but watch your diet and make sure your favorite fall sweaters still fit.

The wine for you …

Since this is going to be a deep month for you, keep things light with an easy wine that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Nif Bağları has changed up its white Aegean blend for 2020 using a combination of Viognier, Narince, and Solaris. Delightful and super drinkable. And they upgraded the label too! Find it at Carrefour and other chain stores.
